Today's Highlights
Well into every tour a little rain must fall ..... or in our case, thunderstorms and buckets of rain must dump down all night long, but that didn't stop us from having a sensational Lake Bled visit.
- On the way to Bled, Barbara shared her stories of her personal experience as Slovenia broke away from Yugoslavia in 1991. When there was bombing nearby, Barbara and her sister would go in the basement of their house and clean. Independence was quickly achieved after eleven days of fighting and Barbara said that life returned to normal with the exception of a very clean basement in their house!
- Views from the castle to the lake and town finally starting to clear up after the rain! Pro-Tip: After the warm climate of Ljubljana, be sure to pack a jacket for Bled and your trip over the Alps - it was chilly at the castle.
- Our boatman rowing us in his Plenta boat to Otok island where we walked up the 99 steps to check out the adorable church make our wishes and ring the church bell.
- Returning to the mainland to stroll the shores of Lake Bled and drink in the views. Pro-Tip: There are plenty of restaurants around, but packing a picnic and enjoying it lakeside would be delightful!
- Splitting a slice of kremšnita with my Mom at the Brown Bear. Lea and Craig joined us so they could indulge in a second piece....Lea said taking a third to-go seemed gluttonous so they had to draw the line. (Got that folks? The third piece is where you draw the line).
- Taking in the views at Lake Jasna near Kranjska Gora and paused for a few pictures of the Julian alps. Our route took us past the Planica ski jumping and ski flying area where we got to see the new facilities under construction.
